Medical School Admissions Do’s and Don’ts

Engineering Meets Medicine: Innovations in Modern Neurosurgery

In this workshop, Dr. Razack, a neurosurgeon, explores how engineering and technology have transformed neurosurgery over the past several decades. Drawing on more than 35 years of experience, he will discuss advancements such as robotics, deep brain stimulation, focused ultrasound, and advanced imaging, highlighting their real-world clinical applications. The session also touches on Dr. Razack’s unique career that spans medicine, law, and leadership, making it ideal for students interested in the intersection of engineering, technology, and healthcare.
Safety First With FDOT

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) prioritizes safety in all engineering decisions. In this workshop, students learn how engineers emphasize safety at every stage of the engineering process, from design and planning to execution and evaluation. Participants will gain knowledge about how engineers recognize possible risks, evaluate hazards, implement safety regulations, and find a balance between efficiency, cost, and performance and safety. Students will investigate how safety concerns influence engineering solutions and safeguard the public through practical examples influenced by FDOT’s procedures. Developing a safety-first engineering approach that is applicable to all engineering disciplines is the focus of this workshop.

The Physician’s Perspective: A Career in Medicine

Join Dr. Gokul N. Kumar, MD, MBA, a practicing ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon, for an honest discussion about the realities of a career in medicine. He will touch briefly on the route to preparing for medical school, then cover the transition from student to physician, day-to-day life in clinical practice, and the rewards and challenges of being a doctor. Perfecting Your Pitch & Profile

This workshop focuses on helping students build a compelling professional profile early in their college careers. Attendees will learn how to identify meaningful experiences such as projects, internships, leadership roles, and research; and translate them into strong resume bullet points and effective elevator pitches. The session also covers communicating with recruiters and professionals, and concludes with live examples, critique, and an interactive Q&A to help students confidently present themselves in professional settings.
